You can dance if you want to, you can leave your skin behind

Let party arrives at the grim titled shop, Parts is Parts. The gnome necromancer, Rhemus Caldakar, is rumored to be a member of The Dealers' Consortium and longtime friend of Kedward Bone. But the party dispatches him so quickly, its hardly worth mentioning.

Moving on to the Skindancer Academy, the adventurers stealthily enter the building and make their way through the first floor up into the second. Dispatching the first few opponents quietly before on of the resident bards raises the alarm. The defenders really never get any momentum as carnage swiftly descends upon them. Only one dancer escaped.

Next was the dread mausoleum, where the dire monks undoubtedly feast on corpses in whatever ghastly rituals the monks observe. The party's lust for conquest unmatched, they descend into the morgue and eliminate the resident monks.

Can't stop the music

The party regroups, and makes for the Tower of Kedward Bone. A stillness is in the air as the adventurers travel through the streets. Arriving at the tower, the group splits into two. One group goes up to the top of the tower, the other gathers at the main entrance.

At the top of the tower, the party struggles to find a way in only to discover that the bedroom is trapped. Moving down a level, they are surprised by Kedward and his impish lover. The battle is just warming up, when Nesta finally gets a bead on the wizard and crumples him with arrows.

Working their way, quietly through the front doors, the rest of the group discovers the slaad guard captain and contingent. Vin draws the heavy fire, while the room erupts in combat. After the slaad falls, the party presses up the stairs even before the last guard falls.

Both groups move to the middle of the tower only to find a terrible demon, in what can only be described as a killing field. Wielding terrible power, the monster of the abyss brings the party low before it falls after a long combat.

The party heals, regroups and searches the tower and discovers the wealth of the Dealer's Guild.

Once more into the breach!

The party plans, scouts, plots, recruits, and prepares for an assault on Scuttlecove. Spending an enormous amount of the party's resources, the assault launches with a long list of spells before the party surrounds the Minting House to deliver the death blow to the Seventh Coil.

Storming in, the party finds the Yuan-ti prepared for combat. But as the party drive in and up (Rudy goes in and down), the Yuan-ti are no match for the well prepared adventurers. One by one, the snake dudes fall and at last the great lieutenant dies. The party drags all the bodys into the basement while they loot. On the third, and top floor, the party finds the body of the Seventh. Apparently moved from where she was slain in the Crimson Fleets headquarters, the remaining Yuan-ti were regrouping and performing some strange summoning ritual with her body.

Gwen's Gathering of Information

Gwen goes pub diving and market watching. She finds that most of the merchants are extremely cautious right now. While each has allied with one of the major factions, only the Sisters of Lamentation seem to be active in the current round of political intrigue.

The "Parts is Parts" shop is run by a resourceful gnome necromancer. While a member of the Consortium, he turns his nose up when Kedward Bone's name is mentioned.

The Skindancer Academy, The Tall House, Eralakni's Emporiom, and the Deacon's Aria seem to be lying low.

Gwen spys Kongu leaving the Rattlebox heading north, but looses him in an alley.

The Scuttlecove arena is seeing big crowds lately. The matches are arranged by the Monks of the Dire Hunger.

The Red Foam Whaling is now housing a large number of mercenaries rumored to be employed by the Dealer's Consortium. They have two ships docked there.

Nesta's Scouting

Sekorvia is a stinking, steaming scar of an island. The largest in the Pirate Isles, it has a skyline of volcanos, covered in thick jungles and ringed with stinking salt marshes. Barely 40 miles across, there are three active volcanos on the island. While there are a few demented hermits and feral folk that dwell in huts, the majority of humanoid life resides in Scuttlecove. Some of the flora and fauna exhibit a demonic taint, probably from the Demogorgon's influence expanding in the region.

Vin's Activities

Vin arrives in town, disguised, and begins his exploration.

Through the parties prior contact with the Rusty Shunt, Lars Lindicaster informs Vin that the Protectorate is desperately trying to get certain individuals smuggled out of town before the impending struggle for power between the factions. Vin agrees to help, and insists that a special effort to liberate as many children in the orphanage. Vin gets Z and Nualla to help remove children from the orphanage without being noticed. The final exodus of refugees and orphans will take place immediately prior to the major operation.

Vin returns, reluctantly, to the Porphyry House to see if Tyralandi has any information on the current political situation. Tyralandi grants Vin an audience, but insists that entire conversation takes place in her chambers while she bathes. Vin, under much duress, finds out that the Monks of the Dire Hunger are going to attempt to return themselves to power. The Consortium has allied themselves with the Dire Hunger Monks after rumors that an Ur-Priest, and possible Triad member, has returned to Scuttlecove and is in contact with Monks. Tyralandi seductively suggests that if the Monks of the Dire Hunger and the Dealers' Consortium were to fall, she would be able to wield more political power and be in a position to help Vin with any of his desires.

Daria's Investigations

Daria infiltrates Scuttle Cove and begins the situation. After several days she has gathered the following information:

The Seventh Coil has all but collapsed. They were in a weakened position when the offered to ally with the Crimson Fleet. With the party's assault on the Minting House, and the death of the Seventh, they are extremely weak. Most of the remaining Seventh Coil Yuan-ti have retreated to the Minting House.

After several days, there are three Crimson Fleet ships in the harbor. Few sailors disembark, and their Captains have been seen several places around town, talking to various people. The bar-lurga press gangs have been scarce lately.

The Dealers' Consortium, a group of illicit substance peddlers led by a Kedward Bone, have brought in mercenaries and appear to be gearing to assert themselves into a dominant position.

The Monks of the Dire Hunger have been their usually quiet selves, but there are a high number of disappearances which lead many to suspect that they are up to something.

The Porphyry House is laying back and watching. They have not made any activity of note.

There have been several killings and reports of open fighting in the streets. Nothing too extraordinary, but much more frequently than recent memory can recall.

Daria thought she saw Maria somewhere near the Skin Dancer Academy.

There are two gates into Scuttlecove, North and West, a river entrance near the north gate on the Noyaro River, and the docks.

Snakes in the basket, lie to lead you astray...

The party walls itself inside the treasure chamber and rests. When they emerge, they move to the top level and find a room with a hurried note from Lavinia that Vanthus still lives and he plans to take her to the Gaping Maw in the Abyss to transform her like the Captains of the Crimson Fleet.

Then invisible Yuan-ti are covering the upper decks of the Crimson Fleet headquarters and attack the party. The party defeats the assassins and discovers the vile nest of the leader of the Yuan-ti, the Seventh. More invisible Yuan-ti protect the Seventh as the party fights it way into the nest. Ultimately, the party wins the trial as Daria makes the killing strike and yells, "Do I have to do everything for myself?!?!"Sna The den of Crimson Fleet has fallen, yet Vanthus and Lavinia are gone...

Taking Care of Business

The party rushes to Gwendelyn's aid, but they finder her dead in the narrow corridor. Dragging her back with a hooked pole, the party retreats back to the Sea Wyvern. Mystic Z teleports her back to Sasserine, for resurrection. Ortho teleports the party back to the entrance of the Crimson Fleet's hideout.

Fighting through a round of demonic sea captains, and losing a rescued captain in the process, the party slowly works its way up the mangled wreck of ships, tree, and vegetation. Exploring the hold of one of the ships the party discovers more twisted pirate captains and a two-torso monkey demon. The battle goes quickly, and the party resumes its exploration. Daria had a head start, and found a monkey shrine with a shiny ball. Like a moth to the flame, Daria opens the sphere and in the noxious mist the Demogorgon appears. Then Daria starts asking the Demogorgon if he'd rather eat poop with a fork instead of a spoon. The Demogorgon replies, "No." While the nine other questions might not have been the most productive for the party, Daria was entertained. Then the Demogorgon recognizes the party, and the shiny orb explodes in a flash of fire and acid. Gwendelyn shows up as Z drops her off before teleporting away again.

Undaunted, the group resumes its upward progress and encounters Captain Shivers (aka Skunk Beard). The fight is brutal but quick, and the captain falls as Daria makes a cruel stab. Rudy is more than put out, missing the felling stroke to his prize. Continuing on, the party discovers a heavily trapped and fortified room. After fumbling through the trap, the party fights another horrific demon. Daria, Vin, and Nualla rush into the room, only Vin and Nualla are wracked with pain entering the vile aura. The room is loaded with treasure and Daria immediately makes for the table with the covered orb. Rudy moves in but is stunned by the foul breath of the demon. Vin and Nualla take a beating. Vin falls, and Nualla is teetering as Hjalmgerdr comes to the rescue. Slowly the party wears the fell beast down, and Nesta is left with the impression that she needs to go shopping for arrows. Daria, remembering a clue from Capn Skanky's room, opens the elaborately locked chest while Rudy rolls around in the piles of gold.

The tide is high, but I'm holding on. I'm gonna find your lost grandson.

Exhausted and low on resources, the party retreats to the Sea Wyvern and sails down the coast to recuperate. After a day of sailing, the crew spots a ruined mansion on the coastline. A shore party rows over and explores the ruins. The main house had mostly collapsed, only a ruined stone tower stands against the ravages of time. In the dusty tower a spiral staircase winds down, deep into the earth.

At the bottom of the stair, is a locked door surrounded by broken glass. As Rudy listens at the door, a mouth forms in the door and warns that to pass unharmed the party must first figure out and speak the answer to the rebus scribed on the door. Rudy scratches his chin, Gwen recalls a story about a Pasquale Rumano. Pasquale was an evil priest long ago, that protected his lairs with traps and elaborate puzzles. As the rest of the party discusses the problem, Rudy makes strange faces at the door until his eyes light up in surprise. "Spectacular!", he shouts and the door opens.

The party moves into a large hall and Rudy moves ahead to explore. As he does, a purple worm strikes. The party rushes to Rudy's aid, and the monster is dispatched quickly. An impressive looking minotaur strolls down the hallway, from the direction of where the party entered the cavern. He introduces himself as "Bubba Minos", and he has hands instead of hooves. He is the last surviving member of his clan. His clan was destroyed by an evil sorcerer named Mandallorean Milano. Bubba Minos now hunts agents of Mandallorean: a pirate chick, a warforged, a drow elf, a pirate dude, and an evil priest. Gwen recalls a poem from the dead bards society about the descendants of Pasquale Rumano, one of whom is Mandallorean Milano. Rudy looks a little greener than normal hearing the news.

The party backtracks to a side passage and meets a metal elemental named "Matt". Without being able to communicate, Vin tries to walk by which provokes the elemental's attack. The fight becomes interesting when the elemental transforms into a whirlwind of metal blades and sucks most of the party up into the vortex. The party finished of the beast, and discussed in great detail the profit possibilities for the 48,000 pound corpse.

Exploring the other side of the passage, the party meets a wood elemental named "Woody". Negotiations go a little better when a bit of magic is employed to aid communications. The elemental is a guardian, and is awaiting a gift of passage. After a long discussion, Rudy borrows on of Nualla's quarterstaves and offers it as the gift. The party passes on and explores the rest of that passage.

Going down the hall, the party explores the purple worm lair, and a beetle filled room. Hidden in the beetle room is a door into a very narrow passageway. Gwen explores the passage, and successfully avoids a pit trap. As she approaches another room, however, she sets of a trap of multicolored light. Gwendelyn shrieks, and the party rushes to her aid...

Sixteen men on a dead man's chest, but someone forgot the rum...

Having explored and cleared all of the smaller structures in the hidden cove of the Crimson Fleet, the party begins its exploration of the main structure. It is a twisted creation of wrecked ships, trees, and other fell components. Very carefully, the party approaches the ship at the base of the structure.

Vin strides boldly on deck, opens a door to the decks below, and sets off a horrible trap. The party is struck with a symbol of insanity, and chaos breaks out. As the heroes desperately struggle to regain control of their minds, a demonic spider-like retriever attacks the party. And just as the party turns the tide, pirates from below deck pour out and join the fray. The battle is hard fought, and the group is victorious.

Looking forward to happier times on Blue Bayou

The party continues their exploration of the lair of the Crimson Fleet. The first building is a temple to the Demogorgon, and up in the rafters monkey demons pounce on the party. The battle takes a troublesome turn when a monkey teleports away with Daria, and another with Rudy and Nesta. The party defeats their foes, even with the party separated. Ortho manages to recover Rudy and Nesta quickly, but must seek out the help of Mystic Z.

The party moves on without Daria and Vin, sensing trouble near, orders a fireball launched to the watchtower. Surprising the guards, and some party members, the fireball explodes with a resounding boom and the docks fill with Crimson Fleet guards. The battle is mighty, but the party finds victory.

Money, its a gas. Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.

Arriving at the Minting House, the party takes a moment to prepare. Through the second story window, Daria and Nesta take out a handful of sleeping thugs. On the ground, Ortho knocks his way through the front door and the party enters the empty room. A cry echoes out as the one of the last upstairs thugs hears one of his buddy's life ending. Caught by surprise, the Minting House's defenses are slow to respond and the party makes quick work of them. The yuan-ti teleport in to continue the defense of the house, but are not able to gain the momentum to drive the invaders out. The party begins the fun work of looting and the grim work of body disposal. One of the yuan-ti reveals a map and the location of the Crimson Fleets headquarters.

Gathering information around town, and some quick knife work/field requisition work by Daria, the party gets a Crimson Fleet flag and heads out to the Crimson Fleet base that is about 11 miles northwest of Scuttlecove. Hoisting the flag, and arriving at the front gate, the party manages to dock. The harbormaster greets the Sea Wyvern, and upon trying to inspect the loot in the hold, is attacked by the party. The two deck hands fall easily, but the harbormaster is more than meets the eye. Ortho drops the fiend with a round of magic missiles and says, "Do I have to do everything around here?!?!"

Bring on the Fight... I Can't Stand Another Hour of Pelor's Light...

Gwendelyn sings...

The Crimson Fleet press gang passed us by
The evening spreads its sail against the sky
Waiting for tomorrow, just another day
The Demogorgon bids our souls good-bye

-----

The party searches the Birdcage and encounters a strange undead, childlike creature that attacked Daria and the rest of the party. The creature was invisible and vicious like a feral cat. The party destroys the little monster and gathers up the remaining loot. Harliss Jarvel is near death in the cage, and Vin packs her off and the party regroups at the Rusty Shunt. Harliss is convinced that she knows how to find the Crimson Fleet base, and that the information is located a place called the Minting House. The group known as the Seventh Coil runs the place, and they are allies with the Crimson Fleet.

Continuing the search for Maria, Diamondback, Kongu and his long lost father, Rudy insists on working the tavern halls to find more information. A press gang from the Crimson Fleet converges on the party on their way to the taverns. Sputtering something to the effect of "We want your ship". The Bar-lurga brutes, and a Yuan-ti sorcerer brought a half-dozen Crimson Fleet thugs to make sure the party was outnumbered. Alas, the brawl in the street only lasted a few moments. The party drags the bodies into a nearby home, Vin shoos the residents out of the building. A quick looting, and the building is ablaze with only a hurled bedpan to tell the tale.

At a disturbing inn called the Violated Ogre, the party finds out more information. First the barkeep recognizes Rudolpho and passes a note from Maria. Rudy read it, turns it sideways, growls and tosses the note into the fire. Apparently Maria said "See you soon, xoxo". Rudy was less than amused. After chatting around, the party learns that the Crimson Fleet captains are the only ones that know the location of thier hideout. Also, the Minting House has been real buddy-buddy with them. The party returns to the Rusty Shunt for a good nights rest.

One Night in Scuttlecove and the World's Your Oyster...

Gwen sings a ribald tune...

One night in Scuttlecove and the world's your oyster,
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free,
The Crimson Fleet hides and waits in every cloister,
If shadow pearls break you'll be a zombie,
Vin can feel a hand moving up his knee.

Rudy scratches, Daria sharpens, Nesta floats, Hjalmgerdr drinks, Ortho snores, and Nualla looks longingly at Vin.

-----

The Red Foam Whaling building is dark, the intrepid adventurers search for a sign of Harliss Jarvel's presence. Moving into the dock-side area of the warehouse, Rudy and Daria lead into the room. Suddenly more Yuan-ti assassins appear behind them and begin attacking. As melee ensues, and the rest of the party enters the room. A giant Yuan-ti appears next to, what appears to be, the body of Harliss Jarvel. The battle goes on, Vin takes a clobbering and Rudy takes the beating of his life. Barely able to stand, he mutters, "Is that all you got?" Harliss stands, turns into a succubus and flys at the remainder of the party. Ortho brings down the large Yuan-ti with the commensurate "Do I have to do everything around here?..." Fighting on the party prevails, and discovers elsewhere in the warehouse, that Harliss has been moved to a place called the Bird Cage.

The Bird Cage's reputation is that of a place that information can be extracted from individuals for a price. After the party bursts into the main hall, the fight is on. Three twisted Sisters of the Lamentation swoop in and attach with blade and song. The fight is quick, and without so much as a raised glance on the street. The party has taken the bird cage.

Gimme all your money, all your loot and booty too... (Goodnight sweet gnome)

The party quickly pursues Khala to the entrance of the old Olman temple. The wastrilith that had been guarding the entrance had changed places with Khala. Khala was now at the entrance recuperating, as the party moved in to attack. Without the demon-aspect's attending skulvyn, the party directs all their efforts to overcoming the resident evil. It's gaze and touch debilitating, Khala strikes out against the party. During combat Vin notices that Nualla is ever-present at his side, watching and guarding his flank. Eventually the party is victorious, and having purged the temple of evil, lays to rest the trouble spirit of Noltus Innersol. Nualla, no longer bound by her oath of service to Noltus, open vows her service to Vin. Vin is suprised, and a bit taken aback, but Nualla is firm and resolute to follow Vin's path.

Returning to Farshore the party discovers that a terrible event has transpired. Earlier in the week, something crawled into (or out of) Vanthus' grave, taking his corpse. Days later, foul minions of the Crimson Fleet assaulted the town, burnt down Vanderboren manor, and kidnaped Lavinia. The Jade Ravens have already taken the Blue Nixie and headed out to Scuttlecove, rumored headquarters of the Crimson fleet. Vowing to rescue Lavinia, Vin gathers the party and teleport to Sasserine. Meanwhile, Captain Spanky aboard the Sea Wyvern, sails speadily to Scuttlecove.

Arriving in Sasserine, the party begins shopping for supplies and recuperating for their next journey, Rudolpho discovers that the Vanderboren vault has been broken into, its door smashed and hewn. Rudy nearly pops when he finds that the vault completely empty. Rudy beats his fists into ground and screams, "They took MY MONEY!!! Bastards!!! NOOoooooo!!!" Cobbling together their remaining resources, the party raises the necessary funds, gathers supplies, then teleports to the Sea Wyvern. During the travel Rudolpho has a dream, Harliss Jarvel tells him that Lavinia is being held by the Crimson Fleet in Scuttlecove and she knows the location. Harliss says to meet her in the "Red Foam Whaling" building.

The party arrives in Scuttlecove discreetly, and begin to scout out the town. Arriving at the Rusty Shunt, the party gauges it to be a safe place from which to operate. As they wander around town they are assaulted by two Yuan-ti assassins. Gwendelyn falls to an assassin's blade, and somehow Ortho survives. The assassins are no match for the party, and the yuan-ti corpses dropped behind a building.

Arriving at the Red Foam Whaling building, the party explores the building. Harliss isn't in the first group of rooms, and the party discovers something that looks like a nest with a small shrine to the Demogorgon. The next area opens into the docks, the party steps in to take a look...

Khala, Khala, Khala, Khala, Khala the Demon... He comes and goes...

After looting the tar pit room, the party followed Daria into a room filled with the skulls of people who were apparently decapitated. Searching reveals no other notables in the room. Daria peeks through the next passageway, and spies a very large room with a statue. This draws Rudy out and, eventually, the denizens of the room as well.

Six large demonic lizards crawl out of the pool of icky water, and some creature vaguely resembling the Demogorgon. The party gains an early advantage, but then seems to struggle through the stretch. Khala, mighty aspect of the Demogorgon, is resistant to most spells and damage. Finally closing with the party, Khala wears down the party even as his pet lizards fall.

Moving about, Khala strikes at the party as the party charges close to the demonic beast. Finally, after being greatly wounded, Khala changes places with one of his servants via teleport. The servant demon battles the party to his last breath.

With a brief reprieve, the party explores the surrounding rooms to the ceremonial chamber, while they recover their wounds. Most of the surrounding rooms were storage rooms for ceremonial offerings. Now they only contain dust and broken pottery. The corner room contains a nice bed and a writing desk, although the moisture in the air and the stink in the stone have left there mark. In the room, the personal effects of Noltus Innersol are stored in a trunk. It appears that a demonic beast, Onalati, took Noltus' persona to decieve the villagers to be sacrifices for Khala's creations: Shadow Pearls. The possesions of Nualla and her two companions are also here.

Get me to the temple on time...

The party returns to the lower temple and immediately resumes searching for the key to the mosaic door. The party discovers the room of darkness, and Daria retrieves the key. Making a bee line to mosaic door, the party opens it and goes down a long winding natural passageway that eventually emerges into the room with black pits and kopru.

The party powers up and enters the chamber with the pits of black goo and the kopru guardians. During the battle, more kopru reinforcements arrive, totalling their numbers to eight. As the kopru fall, Daria gets an early start on the looting.

Loot dispensation

To: House Vanderborn/Farshore Adventuring Party

I hope this letter finds you well, and enjoying your rest time here in Sasserine. Rudolpho, Ortho and I have finally gotten all the party's 'captured' goods and magic items transported here to town. Mystic Z and Gwen have identified and cataloged all the items and with the help of all the partys various contacts, we have sold all the many pieces. The party has quite a payout due to each of the active 7 members.

Each active party member will receive the sum of 20,000 gp as their share of the sales. This also leaves the tidy sum of 36,807.5 gp in the party fund as a reserve for the eventual need of another True Ressurection. Likely, if our past holds any hint of the future.

Now that the Anvil has been returned to the care of the Clerics of the Traveling God, all our members are free of the unnatural 'need' to pursue that above all else. We can expect to be here in Sasserine for a few weeks and can use that time to rest, prepare for the next encounter, and refocus ourselves on our mission of supporing House Vanderborn in it's plan to defend the Farshore Colony. This also is the perfect opportunity to upgrade our equipment, expand our training and improve our abilities. Please do take advantage of the time we have here.
Attached to this letter, find a copy of the sale inventory. Look over it carefully, and verify your paperwork is in order. Remember also, that each of you are due a payout from the temple Clerics of 14,000 gp upon the delivery and destruction of the foul 'demontainted' weapons. If you have not retrieved your payout from the Clerics, visit the Temple and they will settle your account.

Use these funds wisely. It appears that in the pursuit of Holy Justice, such as we have been engaged, our tasks will become much more difficult and demanding. But nothing that is Good and worthwhile ever is easy.

Your most humble servant

Vin IceMark House Vanderborn
Paladin In Fharlanghn's Service

I Sold My Soul To The Company Store

Back at the intersection, the party wanders down the southern passage which open into a room of carnage. Blood and body parts a strewn about the room in an orgy of death and destruction. Two human heads, one male and one female, are the only clue of what might have happened here. The party continues on to the opposite passage which winds around to a trapped door. Daria, unusually on the ball, disarms the trap and opens the door.

The room is a giant 200-foot square descending down, like an inverted ziggurat. Like children in a playground the party makes a dash for the bottom, only to be interruped by two ambush drakes. While the effects of their vile breath only temporarily slowed the party, the poison in their bite proved less than effective. The party made quick work of the vile lizards and hurried down to the bottom of the ziggurat. A little bit of blood, and a quick turn of the lock and the party unlocks one of the doors in the bottom of the pit.

The next room radiates a holy aura so strong that Daria can't muster the will to enter. And when Rudolpho pushes her in, she turns green and is overwhelmed by nausea. Food, water, and an overwhelming sense of calm overwhelms the party. The water has curative powers and the party is quickly restore to top fighting prowess.

Moving on the party enters the temple of light and darkness. Atop the ziggurat in the large, cavernous room, stands Lord Khayven and Tellax. Exchanging long range magical artillery blows, the two sides finally close for combat. Lord Khayven survives Ortho's disintergrate only to be blasted apart by Hjalmgerdr's Bolt of Glory. Tellax, with his master destroyed and no way to protect the dread forge, slips the plane to fight another day. The geased party members can now find their release.

Sunday, Bloody Sunday

The party moves on to the twisting ramp which descends down over 100 feet. Daria easily finds and disarms the trap on the lone flat spot during the descent. The room at the end is full of couatl and Olman figures in bas-relief. There is a trough in the middle of the room with a familiar icky black goo. Moving on the party arrives at a four way intersection.

Northward, the party encounters a room with the warning "Revere the light, respect the guardian". The room contains ten sarcophagi, and like candy to a child, Daria starts on the lid of the nearest one. Immediately wraiths and their dread bretheren attack the party, defending the entrance to the guardian's chamber. After defeating the wraiths, the party opens the door and meet the guardian of the key of light. He opens with a numbing chain lighting bolt through the party, then manages to dominate Rudolpho to defend him. Vin in a valiant charge, whollops the guardian right before Rudy takes him down. Struggling the party also looses Ortho in combat, but finally manages to bring down the guardian. Hjalmgerdr revivifies Ortho, and the party teleports back to Farshore to get Vin's corpse back into service.

Returning to the temple, the party moves into the west corridor and is eventually confronted by another warning, "Revile the darkness, defeat the guardian". The sarcophagi are all open, and the room was already ransacked. Continuing over a plank and rope bridge, spanning a huge dark chasm, the party discovers a 30' square room with a table and an orb. As the party investigates, flaming arrows appear out of nowhere and nick Nesta. Ortho shouts "Shenanigans!" and proves the back wall to be an illusion. Behind the cover of magic lurk a Gelugon and an Erinyes. Gwendelyn wonders why devils are lurking in a demonic temple. The party makes quick work of their fiendish foes, and notes the other corpses on the throne and in the corner have been dead a while. A robed human and an angelic being apparently had been defeated earlier.

Rudolpho, Rudolpho, wherefore art thou Rudolpho...

Rudolpho gets lost in Farshore, probably on a drinking binge, as the party returns to the fiendish oyster pond in the lower level of the temple. The party finds an underwater entrance to the temple and more underwater passages.

Daria sets out bravely treading through many waterfilled passages, only to be assaulted by a green slime. Quickly overcoming that predator, the party continues through the maze of passages in the lower level of the temple. Exploring a few side passage, disturbs an ochre jelly and the party quickly fights a tactical retreat until Hjalmgerdr and Ortho weaken the creature with various spells. Vin remembers his mace and rounds it out by smacking the jelly too. The jelly is no match for the party and falls before anyone can be gobbled.

Daria discovers a porcullis with a few torture tables behind it. With a combined effort the party cranks the porcullis open and search the room. Three elven victims are on tables, with only one being alive. Failing to detect any evil, Vin lays on hands. The elf maiden asks Vin to identify himself, and Vin tells the tale of the party's call to the island and now pursuit of the evil on taboo island. Vin gets a little twitchy when better light reveals that she is a sea elf. The elf maiden introduces herself as Nualla and says that she was party of an expedition of elves that were looking for Noltus Innersol. One of the deceased elves was a Pelorian cleric. Partially equipped and healed by Hjalmgerdr, Nualla wishes to continue with the party, searching of Noltus Innersol.

As the exploration continues, the party discovers a boiling pool. With a bit of energy resistance help from Hjalmgerdr, Vin swims down into the boiling pool and discovers a passageway into a new section further under the temple. Not wanting to engage the kopru by himself, Vin returns to the party and they resume exploring the current section of the temple.

After a long passageway the party finds a long spiral stairway going down. At a landing there was a door that a mosaic that Daria suspects there is a special key that will open it. The party went to other side of the landing and continued down another spiral stairway. At the bottom a huge demon guardian appears and assaults the party. The combat is swift and terrible. Daria, frustrated by not having the benefits of invisibility, cuts her way into the gut of the nalfeshnee and emerges with its heart still stabbing it with her dagger.

XP Standing

Alas... Rudy and the gang are still 13th level...

When the lights go out... in the temple...

Daria tracks the escaped demon to the entrance to the taboo temple. After a quick recoup, Ortho makes the first hop with part of the party and the Hezuru has buddied up with another demon in cavernous opening to the island. The huge worm-like demon at the entrance bellows out blasphemy and wobbles the party. Combat ensues and the Hezrou is the first to fall, and Ortho returns with the rest of the party. The entrance guardian blackens the area and Ortho counters with the light of Pelor. Badly wounded the wastrilith demon teleports away.

The party reorganizes and proceeds into the temple. Daria "finds" the symbol trap and its deadly energy shoots through the party. Daria, Rudolpho, Nesta endure the effect but Vin and Gwendelyn succumb to the power and die. Hjalmgerdr revivifies Vin, and Gwen is bundled up to be returned to town.

The party finishes its exploration of the entrance level, and takes on of the stairways down. Passing a landing the party arrives in a large cave, two feet of water. Large fiendish oysters are apparently cultivated in this room. Rudy manages to pry on open with some help and the oyster shrieks while it yields its prize, a large black pearl.

Large kopru, alerted by the schrieks, emerge into the cavern and assault the party. After they are defeated the party extracts four more pearls from the big oysters.

XP Standings

Everyone is still 13th level. Rudy is 4700 experience points away from 14th level, so there is really no reason to ask until say February 28th or so...

Greasy, grimy, gopher guts...

The party returns to the Taboo Temple after taking refuge in the jungle to recoperate. Nesta spots a skinwalker guard inside the entrance that the party used the last time. Daria goes invisible and gets inside the entrance to find two more skinwalkers behind the hewn doors. Dropping a silenced stone, Daria move in a gives the ready signal by stabbing a skinwalker. The party allows Daria time to work, before moving in to the entrance to attack.

A skinwalker acolyte appears in time to greet Ortho, and Ortho starts the exchange. The temple defenders are further reinforced by a troop of armored monkeys. The party dispatches their foes after a bit of slugging it out. Daria and Rudy both splatter the guts of their opponents onto the ancient stone walls. The party makes its way into the temple and finds a room with a blood trail leading down to a large watery room.

Never missing a chance to bathe in brackish, putrid water, Rudy goes for a swim and finds three large Hezrou demons. In the 8-foot deep water, the party is assaulted by blasphemy, unholy bight, and the retched stench of the abyss. As the demons begin moving away, Hjalmgerder blasts one into pasty residue. The last demon teleports away before Rudy and Vin can close for the kill.

Now you can't catch me, baby you can't catch me...

'Cause if you get too close, you know I'm gone like a cool breeze...

The party returns to the skinwalker infested ruined Olman temple to discover a ritual room, with several inscribed circles, statues holding symbols of the sun, moon and stars. Looking at the stone tablet that Jakara brought to Farshore, the party arranges things in the room to unlock the treasure of Macutotnal... the Nimbus Bow. Nesta was all about that.

Exploring further the stalwart adventurers find a burial chamber of Olman priests and warriors dressed in their ceremonial finest. With loot immediately at hand, so went the hands of Daria. The spirits of the temple rise to fend off the greedy interlopers, the dread wraiths were unsuccessful and the party claimed their prize.

Scouting ahead, the party finds the skinwalker chief in a common room with several other skinwalkers. The party sets up for an ambush, and pounces on the unsuspecting skinwalkers with Daria opening the fray. Rudy makes a spectacular leap off the ledge, and the rest of the party moves in and positions themselves. After a few rounds the skinwalker acolytes and others emerge from thier rooms and reinforce the chief. Ortho feels a feeblemind spell hurled at him and his response fizzles as the second acolyte counterspells Ortho's reprisal.

At its final ebb, Vin deals the finishing blow to the chieftain and denying Daria's kill. Ortho watches in frustration as the acolyte escapes.

Hey! You got Daria in my Vin. Hey You got Vin in my Daria! Two great tastes...

The party continues it's journey looking for the village of Mantru, since the skin-walker impostors probably came from there. Ruddy felt unsatisfied after the last combat, and was even more disappointed when the village of Mantru appeared to be abandoned. Just as the party was spreading out, two couatls appear. They explain that they are guarding the body of Umlat, the last priest of the village. All the other villagers dissappeared in a single night, so the couatls were waiting for someone worthy to pay respect to Umlat and give him last rights. The party answers the riddle, and Vin breaks out his ceremonial garb bidding Umlat a fond farewell.

Off the edge of Mantru is the giant lake in the middle of the central plateau. The party travels around the lake to the nearest point to the isle in the lake. As the party travels across the water, a gargantuan crocodile attacks and chops Hjalmgerdr down to a last thread. Death is all but certain, as the crocodile mangles the party. Still the party holds on as all effort is applied to bring the big beast down.

Arriving on the central isle the jungle is quiet, and Nesta follows several paths winding through the foliage to ancient Olman ziggurats. Only the last of which appears to have a pit descending hundreds and hundres of feet down below the surface of the island. Nearby there is an entrance to what appears to be an ancient Olman temple. The spirit of Umlat mentioned a taboo temple that had been overcome by evil.

Rudolpho hacks through the stone doors with his falchion and the party moves down the corrior with Daria cautiously out front. Suddenly dozens of poisoned spears shoot out of the walls and strike the party down. Hjalmgerdr does her best to undo the damage.

Daria sneaks out ahead and finds a pit full of very nasty smelling ooze, a room full of copper rings, and an empty area full of pews. Daria gets back to the party, and discuss thier options. Nesta yells, "Ooze!!!" and points at the stinking mass of bleh that has moved down the hallway. With an unually quick reaction, the flesh jelly gets the jump on Vin and Daria. The rest of the party frantically attacks, trying to liberate their comrads from the foul smelling heap. Alas, in a very short time Daria and Vin are absorbed into the jelly. The blob falls in just a few rounds, releasing the gear of the fallen adventurers. The party gathers the gear, and the copper rings and leaves the temple complex.

Broken hearted, the party retreats to Farshore, regroups, and teleports to Sasserine. Then Monmerg, since the emissary has not arrived yet. Riesaru brings Vin and Daria back. Daria gets a special bonus Geas to recover the Dread Forge. Vin has a vision during his ressurection of the Dread Forge now being guarded by a fell, demonic, two-headed creature in the bottom of the temple. No whisper of the location of the Death Knight. Riesaru only charges the party for the spell components for one of the ressurections, since the recovery of the Dread Forge is crutial.
